On the numbers
We publish weight, load and hours because “handmade” is not a specification. Hours are the weavers' own estimate for an average body; the load is what the rim takes without deforming.
Discover
Géographie
Marrakech, Mellah and Rue Riad Zitoun. The leaf is cut in the Haouz plain in spring and dried three weeks before it reaches the weavers.
Technique
A flat plait of four strands, coiled and sewn in a spiral. The rim is folded over a leather cord and stitched by hand, which is what keeps the mouth open.
Histoire
The souk basket, carried daily to the market. TUYYA has bought from the same two workshops since 2011; the lining and the shoulder straps were added at our request.
